    The Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS)

The Canadian Geotechnical Society has held the 48th Canadian Geotechnical conference in Vancouver B.C., in late September of 1995. The membership of the Engineering Geology Division stands at 189. The membership of the International Association of Engineering Geology has declined by about 200 but, on ther other hand, the number of member countries has increased by two with the addition of Nepal and Malaysia. The IAEG Bulletin will be modified so that its Secretariat of IAEG will be separated from the Editorial Office of the Bulletin. At the same time, it will go from two to four issues per year. As of now, Dr. Louis Primel, of the Laboratoire Central des Ponts et chaussées, is still coordinating both activities. The next IAEG Conference will be held in Athens, in 1997, under the theme of Engineering Geology and the Environment. The conference is also co-sonsored by the International Association of Hydrogeologists, Cogeoenvironment, all this under the auspices of UNESCO.

The 8th International Conference of IAEG will be held in Vancouver, from September 21st to 25th 1998. It is co-sponsored by IAEG and the http://www.cgs.ca/. The Steering Committee has three members from the sponsoring organizations. The Organizing committee has held 14 meetings so far and has created many sub-groups. Work is in progress. Also, AEG (Association of Engineering Geologists) will hold its annual conference, in Seattle, just the week following the IAEG conference so that field trips between the two conferences will be shared.
